During his time at university, Sam embraced all that BCU had to offer. From playing a pivotal role in the University鈥檚 marketing team to joining the mentorship programme, Sam got stuck in and is now reaping the rewards after successfully securing his first role after graduation at leading agency Inspired Thinking Group.
鈥淚鈥檇 always been interested in web design, so when I came across the Digital Media Computing course at BCU and saw that there was a web design and video production element to it, as well as a mixture of logical and technical modules, it really appealed to me. I like creative work, so it was a really well balanced course.
There aren鈥檛 many universities in the UK which offer the course as it鈥檚 quite niche, but BCU鈥檚 open day really confirmed my choice. I was so impressed by the facilities, as well as the course modules and the lecturers. The way that my course was designed is really good for preparing you for life after university, as it covers so much of what you will eventually do within the industry after completing your studies, such as different types of media, design, programming and loads of team work.
During my time at BCU, I had great support from the Careers+ team and they helped me in preparing for interviews as well as telling me about opportunities that I could get involved in. During my second year, I received regular tips from my mentor in BCU鈥檚 mentorship scheme from the Royal Mail, and I got some great advice from her.
I also had the opportunity to work within BCU, securing a role as a Web and Digital Assistant in the ADM faculty. For my placement year, I worked within the University鈥檚 marketing team as a Web Content Assistant, which was great and a fantastic opportunity.
I鈥檓 now working as a Global Web-Forms Coordinator at Inspired Thinking Group (ITG). It's a large technology-led marketing company, which is based here in 探花直播. One of our biggest clients is Jaguar Land Rover (JLR), and I am currently working within the JLR project management department.
It is great working for such a big agency, and their clients include Virgin Media, Heineken, Puma and so much more, so there is plenty to get involved with. It is very much a client facing role and I have regular contact with them to decide on things like web pages, discuss upcoming campaigns and more. I鈥檝e now been in the role for a few months and I鈥檓 really enjoying it so far.
In the future, I鈥檇 love to continue progressing at ITG and have a long and successful career with them. The company are keen to develop me and push me further up the ladder, so I will keep working hard and see where it takes me.
My advice to other students would be to keep on top of your work, and give yourself enough time to work on them. I would also advise to ask questions to your lecturers, they are there to help you. But also, have fun, university is a great time in your life, so enjoy yourself.
