Rave your Pain Away
Zuzana Kodajova is a third year Fashion Design student using the power of the rave community to create a sustainable clothing collection.
Fashion Design - BA (Hons)
Give us a brief overview of your project
My fashion collection, Rave your Pain Away, is inspired by the techno rave community and how the music makes people feel. It allows people to be whomever they want to be and enjoy the present moment to the fullest in euphoric moment. The goal was also to make the entire collection as sustainable as possible. The clothes are entirely made of preloved materials such as used denim jeans, scraps of fabrics from previous projects, collected soda can tops and old duvet.
Why did you choose this concept?
Making my own fashion collection is a dream. I鈥檝e always wanted to make clothes for people to make them feel incredible wearing my pieces. I chose the concept of the techno rave community because it鈥檚 something that I really love and because of how it can make the people feel great and present in the moment.
What processes have you been using?
I鈥檝e been using software such as Illustrator and Procreate to draw my designs. For聽the making of my collection I聽sourced pre-loved materials, deconstructed old jeans, cut patterns, sewed, toiled, embroidered digitally, printed, painted and much more.聽On top of this I did all of the聽styling, photography, filming the clothes, editing photos and videos, posting on social media, contacting models and photographers, collaborating, managing a photoshoot and overall creative direction.
What do you hope to achieve with your project?
I want to show people that it is possible to make cool and wearable clothes fully out of used materials or materials that would otherwise end up as waste.
How has your course helped you to prepare for working on your project?
My course helped me learn everything I know about making garments. It has also taught me to be organised with my time and use different softwares like聽Illustrator or Photoshop.
