What made you choose to study Engineering at BCU?
BCU caught my attention because of its commitment to diversity and its hands-on approach to preparing students for real world engineering challenges. I chose engineering because I want to help rebuild and improve communities that need dedicated professionals who care about making a difference. The course at BCU aligns perfectly with my goal of using engineering to create lasting, positive change.
Do you feel your course is preparing you to meet your future career aspirations? If so, in what ways?
Absolutely! Working alongside experienced technicians has been an incredible learning experience. Their guidance is shaping me into an engineer who can make a real difference. The hands-on approach, particularly in modules like Leading Engineering Endeavours that emphasise environmental sustainability, has been invaluable. While my ultimate goal is to become a commercial pilot, the engineering skills I'm gaining here are essential. Understanding complex systems and honing my problem-solving abilities will be just as crucial in aviation as they are in engineering.
What opportunities have you had to engage with industry professionals?
At BCU, I've had several opportunities to interact with industry professionals, which has been incredibly rewarding. One standout experience was a reverse engineering project on a rollercoaster with Holovis, where I gained hands-on insight into real-world applications of engineering. Another was Innovation Fest with LK Metrology, where my team placed third, earning us a site visit to their facility. These experiences have been invaluable and not just in expanding my technical knowledge but also in helping me build a strong professional network and gain a deeper understanding of the industry.聽
What support has BCU provided you during your degree so far?
The technicians at BCU have been an incredible source of support, always ready to offer guidance and practical insights. Their expertise has played a crucial role in my learning, ensuring that I can confidently apply engineering concepts in real-world scenarios. Working closely with them, alongside upper-year students, has deepened my understanding and made complex challenges more approachable. Initiatives like Formula Student have further reinforced this hands-on approach, encouraging proactive learning and a deeper grasp of engineering principles through direct application. Knowing that help is always within reach has made my experience here even more rewarding.
