Taufiq is听an Associate Professor in Networks and Communications听and the Head of the Future Information Networks (FINET) Research Cluster at 探花直播 (BCU).听
He received the PhD degree in Information Engineering from Trinity Hall, the University of Cambridge, UK, and the BEng (1st Class Hons) in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. Before joining BCU in March 2020, he had a long international career in information technology and computing research, including in the UK (Cranfield and Coventry Universities), Taiwan (National Chiao Tung University), Germany (Bell Labs) and Singapore (Institute for Infocomm Research).
Taufiq's research interests are in the broad area of information theory and its multidisciplinary applications. Over the past few years, his research works have included topics in the fundamental Shannon theory (e.g., non-coherent communications), wireless networks (cognitive protocols and architecture development) and Internet of Things (computational algorithms for data sensing and processing). He has recently been investigating the applied sides of information theory, focusing on its connections with machine learning and networking, and the broad contextual applications in smart cities, environmental monitoring, disaster management, intelligent transportation and cybersecurity.
His research has been supported by the UK DCMS, Samsung GRO Fund, EPRSC GCRF, Research England GCRF, National Science Council of Taiwan Grant and Cambridge Trust.
Taufiq has authored/co-authored more than 50 peer-reviewed research articles in leading journals and conferences. I currently serves as an Academic Editor for PeerJ Computer Science (IF: 3.09), Topic Editor for Sensors (IF: 3.275), and Associate Editor for IEEE Access (IF: 3.745).
