Si芒n Derry is a Senior Lecturer in Music, and Assistant Director of Postgraduate Studies (MA Musicology Course Director, Professional Performance - AdvPgDip Course Director) at Royal 探花直播 Conservatoire. She joined the Conservatoire in 2015, having previously taught at the University of Manchester.
Si芒n completed her BMus Hons degree as a pianist and MMus in Musicology at Royal 探花直播 Conservatoire, and was subsequently awarded a Wingate Scholarship to undertake doctoral studies at the University of Manchester with Professor Barry Cooper. Her thesis is entitled 鈥楤eethoven鈥檚 Experimental Figurations and Exercises for Piano鈥�. In 2013 she became a postdoctoral research associate at the University of Manchester for an AHRC-funded cultural engagement project, examining the history of music and music education in Manchester. Her research focussed specifically on the work and concert programming of Charles聽Hall茅.
Si芒n has a broad range of research interests, including Beethoven, piano pedagogy and organology, critical editing and performance practices of the 18th and 19th Centuries. She is a founding member of the Manchester Beethoven International Research Symposia, established in 2009, and has presented on a diverse range of topics over this period.聽She is also a member of the Conservatoire鈥檚 Forum for Seventeenth- and Eighteenth-Century Music.
