Student trumps competition

Third-year BMus student Charlie Cooper has won the Alfred Corfield Trumpet Prize 2023.

Adjudicator Simon Cox awarded the prize to Charlie for his brilliant performance of works by Viviani, Neruda and Brandt during the recent competition final in Royal 探花直播 Conservatoire鈥檚 (RBC) Bradshaw Hall.

Fourteen students entered this year鈥檚 competition, which was open to all RBC trumpet players.

The prize was first won by Visiting Lecturer, RBC alumnus and former Associate Head of Brass Andrew Stone-Fewings in 1988.

Interim Head of Brass Edward Jones said: 鈥淢assive congratulations to Charlie, who delivered a highly accomplished performance in the final. The adjudicator acknowledged that the standard of playing this year was incredibly high, and picking a winner was no easy task.

鈥淐harlie鈥檚 fellow finalists Jules White, Crispin Brown and Treve Benney are all to be commended for their brilliant performances.鈥
