Professor Kevin George Mattinson

Kevin retired from 探花直播 at the end of September 2023. He was, between October 2022 and September 2023, a Special Advisor to the University, working in the Faculty of Health, Education and Life Sciences. Prior to this, he had been 鈥� since February 2014 鈥� Associate Dean and Head of the School of Education and Social Work , and Professor of Teacher Education.

Having worked for ten years in secondary schools in Warwickshire and Cumbria between 1981 and 1991, Kevin moved in to Higher Education in September 1991, appointed to the position of Senior Lecturer in Business and Economics Education at Crewe and Alsager College of Higher Education (this became the Crewe and Alsager Camus of Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU) in 1992). Kevin held a number of positions during his time at MMU, including: Subject Lead on four-year Business and Economics Education degrees; PGCE Secondary Course Leader and Institute Lead for Employment-based Teacher Training Routes.

Kevin moved to Edge Hill College of Higher Education (now Edge Hill University) in January 2002, taking up the position of Head of Secondary Education. During his time at Edge Hill, Kevin oversaw the review and revalidation of Secondary provision and the introduction of flexible and part time PGCE secondary courses.

Kevin moved to Keele University in September 2004 to take up the position of Head of Teacher Education. Between 2009-14, he was also Pro Vice-Chancellor for Communities and Partnerships. A significant part of Kevin鈥檚 work was in Outreach and Widening Participation within Stoke on Trent and Staffordshire. He also led work on the development of Initial Teacher Education provision with the Indus Group of schools in Bengaluru, India and this work has been drawn on to inform subsequent work with partners in the UK and overseas.

Kevin has had extensive experience as an external examiner and external reviewer, at home and overseas. He has also been employed as a consultant by Universities to support their preparation for Ofsted Inspections. He was a QAA Reviewer and has, on two occasions, given evidence to Select Committees in Parliament.

Kevin is currently a Director of 探花直播 Ormiston Academy (BOA) Multi Academy Trust and he has had experience of being a Governor and Director with a number of schools across the Midlands for approximately 20 years, as well as sitting on the Boards of a number of Teaching School Alliances.

He has been an active member of the Universities Council for the Education of Teachers (UCET) for approximately 25 years. He was on UCET Executive for approximately ten years through a range of roles on various UCET committees and was Chair of UCET between 2020 and 2023. Since September 2024, he has been Treasurer of UCET and is a member of the Executive Committee through this role.

Although retired, Kevin continues to contribute to the field of Teacher Education in a number of ways. He acts in an advisor capacity on policy for Teaching School Hubs and University Mission Groups.聽 He is a member of the National Trailblazer Group for Teaching Apprenticeships. He acts as external reviewer for institutional programme approvals and senior appointments/professorial conferments and is a Chief External Examiner for a University partnership.
