What is Turnitin?
An online text matching tool that can assist staff with聽detecting聽plagiarism and poor referencing.
How should I use Turnitin for my modules?
- Turnitin can be used within the the Moodle assignment point.
- Turnitin can be used for both formative and summative assessments.
- We recommend that staff use an alternative to Internet Explorer when accessing聽Turnitin reports.
How do I use Turnitin?
Tutors聽can enable Turnitin on聽Moodle through the assignment point settings - please note this must be done prior to students submitting. Please find the recommended settings for聽formative assignments and summative assignments.

Please note,聽we are unable to advise students on their Turnitin reports. We recommend they contact their module leader with any questions.
How do I informally submit a paper to Turnitin?
submits聽a paper聽to Turnitin, but is not stored on their聽repository and can be used for students to check their referencing. Staff may also use this feature. Students and staff聽need to self-enrol the first time they access the site.
How do I interpret Turnitin reports?
Click on the percentage icon adjacent to the student鈥檚 name within the assignment point. This will reveal which papers, journal articles, books, websites etc. their submission聽correlates with. Please contact us聽if聽you聽would like any聽advice on this.
